Beginning Again and Again

Have you ever felt like you’re beginning again and again in life? Well, c’est la vie - here I am, starting a blog again. And that’s okay.

As my best friend and I sat in her NC kitchen, beginning to make croissants at 7pm, planning what movie to watch, and making pumpkin spice lattes (a typical Kelsie and Jo idea of a lively night when we visit one another), we found ourselves visiting I Love… for the PSL recipe. Am I slightly horrified I just linked my blog from age 13? Slightly. Anyway, what followed was an hour of revisiting my blog, Kelsie’s blog, and reminiscing on a season of life and blogging that we quite honestly had forgotten. The cringe-y paragraphs written, me pre-braces, seeing the cultivation of skills that we now use in our jobs and daily lives…. all of it made me feel something I can only describe as nostalgia - nos·tal·gia /nəˈstaljə/ noun - according to Google’s definition

  1. a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.

Rose-colored glasses or not, I missed those blogging days that were filled with honest learning & sharing. I didn’t know anything about being a “brand” back then or how to optimize a social media presence - I simply knew what I loved, documented it, and wanted to share and encourage others in the pursuit.

Maybe it sounds careless that I don’t have “goals” for this little space, but that’s precisely what I want. A place where goals and strategy are left on the porch and hopes, exploration, creativity, and learning are welcomed in. If you’re looking for a place to lay down today’s concerns for a moment and embrace the important work of cultivating home and life with others, I’m glad you’re here. Let’s make some food, read a few books, add some art to our homes, gather with others, and simply begin… again and again.
