In The Studio

Here is a glimpse into the process of creating, which is often humble and not very glamorous. Yet, these candid iPhone photos show the nitty gritty details of something very exciting - a watercolor collection launch!!! The Flowers at Home Collection will become live right here in the shop at 11am EST THIS Tuesday for email subscribers (scroll to the bottom to subscribe and get an email for early access to the collection!) and 4pm for everyone else.

A little about the collection : I've fallen for the soft tones and sweet color of metallic watercolor paints the past couple of years. Similar to black and white paintings, there is less variety of color, which in my opinion let’s the subject and technique shine all the more. As winter continues on, painting these blooms has helped me anticipate warmer days and remember the life & beauty of flowers long after they’ve passed. I hope these paintings can offer the same reminder to you as well.

Below you’ll find a few of the many steps that go into every watercolor - 1. a black and white value study to help me “see” what is light and dark in my subject matter, 2. watercolor paper taped and the largest shapes blocked out, 3. shapes broken down to the finest details (including shadows), 4. the final piece after 2-4 layers of paint, depending on the area.

Thank you for taking a peak into the studio! Until next time, friends! Be sure to mark your calendars for Tuesday to see the Flowers at Home collection up close and welcome one into your own home!
