Books to read in 2024

In the spirit of easing into good habits & good books this year...

here are a few books I read in 2023 and still think of months later.

You can’t build 23 habits, workout 5 days a week, and suddenly read all the books on your shelf. So, in the spirit of easing into good habits & good books this year, here are a few books I read in 2023 and still think of months later. Find one to put on your reading list and let me know what you think!

The Things of Earth, Joe Rigney - for someone who’s tired of looking at the world at face-value and desires some rich yet digestible truths about the beauties of this life. What is the proper relationship between delighting in the things of earth and understanding that they cannot be our ultimate joy?

Digital Minimalism, Cal Newport - If you’ve ever felt empty coming away from scrolling on social media and wanted to do something about it, this may be one of your most important reads for the year. The whole idea is not to avoid media completely, but use leisure in intentional and life-giving ways. This book has sparked many thoughts & conversations with others about how we use our time and how we want to use our time.

Hannah Coulter, Wendell Berry - A great read for someone wanting to tap into their feelings. A beautiful, yet sometimes hard, reality of time in a changing world, this book goes through the life of a woman who we can all look up to & resonate with in one way or another.

At home in Mitford, Jan Karon - imagine a hallmark movie (but with 100% more substance) meets a quaint town resembling Stars Hollow. This was quite possibly my favorite book that I read last year. I thoroughly enjoyed the simple musings of this small town and the various adventures - some heartfelt & some chuckle-worthy - of its community.

Notable others: North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell, Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, Leave it to Psmith by P.G. Wodehouse…

What were your 2023 favorites? I’m always on the lookout for books to add to my own list!

Stay in touch,

Joanna
